At this time, there is no information on Maria Berger’s family. There is a Maria Berger who came to the United States on a ship named Sophie. She arrived 13 Nov 1852. She was the only Berger on the manifest. She may have lost her immediate family and had family in the area or her family might have proceeded her to the United States.
There are several Berger families in Posey County in the 1860 Census. The problem with connecting Maria is that she was married by that time. The search continues...

Eva Barbara Mueller
In the 1840’s it took about 14 days to travel from Europe to the US by steamship. Some of our ancestors were very young for that kind of voyage.
Many of our Prussian ancestors came to America around the time of the First Schleswig War. There is a lot of great history available about Prussia. Prussia officially ceased to exist, even in name, after the end of WWII when the Allied Control Council split Prussian lands between Germany, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Denmark, Belgium and the Czech Republic. The part of Prussia that many of our ancestors emigrated from did become part of Germany.
Prussia was at some points in history its own entity and at other times part of the German Empire. It becomes hard to pin down exact locations. A couple of our ancestors were born in Alsace, France but that location belonged to Germany at different times.
This book is just the beginning of the journey into our family history. I wanted to share with you what I’ve discovered so far. I’m hoping to be able to fill in the ‘?’ as I continue the search.
