Herman Henry "Pop" Hartig was born on 26 Jul 1882 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana to Theodore W Hartig and Maria Reckefuss. Herman was one of 12 children born to Theodore and Maria.

Herman Hartig married Anna Marie Pauline Schroeder on 31 Jan 1909 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Initial records list him as a farmer after the couple married. In the 1930's. the city directory lists him as a warehouse foreman for JA McCarty Seed Co. and 1940's lists him as a pipefitter for George Koch and Sons. Herman and Anna had 8 children. They were married on 2 Nov 1945 in Evansville, Indiana Oscar was a WWII veteran. He enlisted in the army 4 Apr 1941 and was in service until 23 Sep 1945. He was retired from George Koch and Sons. The couple is buried at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.

Magdalena Elisabeth Hartig (5 Jan 1921-13 May 2017) was born in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Spouse Charles W Powelson (12 Nov 1919-23 Jul 1993) was born in North Dakota. They were married on 5 Jan 1950 in Evansville, Indiana. Maggie was a Navy Veteran, She enlisted in 1944 as a nurse to care for wounded soldiers. Charles was a boilermaker and steamfitter. During WWII he was a welding foreman at the Evansville shipyard. The couple is buried in St Paul’s UCC Cemetery.

Emma Hulda Hartig (8 Jan 1924-5 Jul 2017) was born in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Spouse  Joseph J Geiser (23 Jul 1912-20 Mar 2003) was also born in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Maria Reckefus (9 Sep 1846-12 Apr 1934) was born in Indiana. They were married on 24 Nov 1866 in Evansville, Indiana. Theodore was a farmer, Maria kept house and raised their 11 children. I was only able to confirm 10 children for them. The couple is buried at Zoar UCC Cemetery.

Wilhelm F Hartig (15 Jan 1846-5 Feb 1914) was born in Lippe, Detmoldt, Germany. Spouse Mary B Helrich (9 Aug 1853-26 Aug 1931) was born in Bayern, Germany. They were married  on 17 Jul 1869 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. There doesn't seem to be a connection between Mary B Helfrich and our Helfrich line. Her father's name is Maurice or Morris and their last name is spelled Helfrick about half the time. The couple is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. 

Johanna Hartig (25 Aug 1848-2 Dec 1935) was born in Lippe, Detmoldt,  Germany. Spouse Simon August Hartig (6 May 1834-23 May 1885), who was also born in Lippe, Detmoldt,  Germany. They were married on 24 Nov 1865 in Indiana. His parents were Hans Hermann Hartig and Charlotte Klemme. No family connection has been found between the couple. The couple is buried in Locust Hill Cemetery.

Caroline (Carrie) Reckefus (10 May 1847-12 Jul 1930) was born in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Spouse Wilhelm Tosettel (31 Mar 1846-11 Oct 1912) was born in Lengerich, Westfalen, Germany. They were married on 18 Jan 1872 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The couple is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.
